The NAEMSP Quality Improvement Pre-Conference Workshop
Sunday, October 26   |   0800-1700h
Fee: $179

Designed for EMS quality leaders, medical directors and frontline clinicians who want to improve the clinical quality of their service and need tools to be more effective, the NAEMSP Quality and Safety course applies the lessons of healthcare improvement to the challenges of out-of-hospital care. This introductory course teaches the tenets of improvement science and how to practically apply these lessons to EMS agencies, larger EMS systems or a state-wide effort.

Circulating Hope: Managing ECMO Patients in Transport™
Sunday, October 26   |   0800-1200h
Fee: $99
Presented by FlightBridgeED

One thing is sure: pre-hospital and critical care transport of patients treated with ECMO represents a massive upward flux in the industry. Similar fluxes have been seen in segments of patients being transported with Mechanical Ventilators, IABPs, and VADs. Although some training has been available to introduce ECMO to our industry, a comprehensive, scholarly training program has never been created for pre-hospital and critical care transport providers.

The content of this course has been carefully created by Dr. Michael Lauria, Dr. Brittney Bernardoni, and Bruce Hoffman, all of whom have extensive experience in the management of patients being treated with ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) patients regularly in the cardiovascular and cardiothoracic critical care unit. In addition to their professional experience, the institutions these providers are associated with have been at the forefront of developing and delivering extracorporeal life support in prehospital and transport settings. The course is designed to provide unparalleled clinical understanding and concise, easy-to-understand guidance on specific management for ECMO patients in transport.

Imminent and Isolated: Managing Preterm Birth Emergencies in an OB Desert
Sunday, October 26   |   1300-1700h
Fee: $99
Presented by the Children’s Nebraska Neo/Peds CCT Team
Location: Children's Nebraska (15 mins from the CHI Convention Center)

Preterm birth emergencies can happen anywhere, and when they do, clinicians must act swiftly—especially in resource-limited settings without immediate obstetric support. This four-hour immersive workshop is designed to equip healthcare providers with the critical decision-making skills and hands-on experience necessary to manage both maternal and neonatal emergencies in an OB desert.

Through a combination of high-fidelity simulation, case-based discussions, and procedural skill stations, participants will learn to recognize the signs of imminent delivery and manage the unique challenges of caring for an extremely premature infant. Learners will apply Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) principles, assess indications for intubation, and practice neonatal stabilization techniques, including thermoregulation, umbilical line placement, and pigtail chest tube insertion. The workshop will also address maternal postpartum hemorrhage, with a focus on early recognition and emergency interventions.

This session is ideal for EMS providers, emergency clinicians, and transport teams who may encounter preterm deliveries in non-OB settings. Participants will gain hands-on proficiency, improve situational awareness, and develop confidence in managing high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitations when resources are scarce.

Join us for this interactive, fast-paced workshop and leave with the skills and knowledge to save lives when every second—and every decision—counts.

(Limited to 25 registrants)

You won’t want to miss this interactive, hands-on dissection lab filled with numerous critical care procedures to perform.

During this hands-on dissection lab, the participant will gain a better understanding of anatomy and physiology using discarded hog heart and lungs.

  1. Identify the anatomy of the upper and lower airway.
  2. Identify the anatomical differences between the Pediatric and Adult airway.
  3. Identify the layers, structure, great vessels, and blood flow of the heart.
  4. Understand preload and afterload and its effects of cardiac output.
  5. Discuss the physiology of the cardiac and respiratory systems working together.
  6. Understand the pathophysiology of Cardiac Tamponde, Tension Pueumothora, Dissection Aneurysm, and Myocardium Infarction

Numerous procedures will also be reviewed and performed, including:

  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Combitube, King LT
  • Needle Cricothyrotomy
  • Surgical Cricothyrotomy
  • Pericardiocentesis
