Are robots taking over? The true story of how FAA certified autonomy in aviation will revolutionize safety for unmanned and manned flight. We will discuss the safety case statement for developing and using autonomous technology and why AI is not part of the development. Reliable Robotics has an FAA approved certification plan for pilot optional Cessna Caravan large aircraft cargo operations. We will look at this plan, the technology being developed, the timeline involved and the process to implement this technology into Part 135 operations. This technology is not limited to just the Caravan and will be quickly approved for other aircraft types. We will discuss how these autonomous safety technologies can be used to prevent human factor accidents in air medical operations without taking the pilot out of the cockpit. Spin-off safety products such as the radar developed for providing a Detect and Avoid (DAA) solution for remote pilot operations can provide collision protection on the air and the ground without any other automation being installed. Finally we will discuss why this technology is not a threat to the pilot workforce but a safety benefit that it will remove most of the human error accidents that we unfortunately still experience today.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to understand why advanced autonomous safety technology is needed to decease accidents and improve safety
Upon completion, participant will be able to understand the certification process and realize the implementation of this technology is just a few years away
Upon completion, participant will be able to prepare for implementing new technologies and education their workforce on the realities of this next evolution of aviation safety
