Clinical Director – Air Methods
Lisa Kettunen is a seasoned clinical leader, educator, and critical care specialist with over 17 years of experience in prehospital and critical care medicine spanning air, ground, and hospital settings. As a Clinical Director at Air Methods, she oversees clinical operations for several bases in the PacWest region and leads initiatives that enhance patient safety, team development, and performance metrics in alignment with industry standards.
Drawing on her passion for prehospital and in-hospital critical care with her background as both a registered nurse and paramedic, Lisa has been instrumental in process improvement, change management, and implementing evidence-based best practices in air medical transport.
She is deeply committed to education and mentorship, proactively coaching her clinical teammates, focusing on opportunities to develop leadership, and approaching challenges with a growth mindset.
Lisa’s extensive career includes roles as a Flight Nurse/Paramedic, ICU Nurse, Clinical Instructor, Nursing Faculty, and Paramedic Educator. She has been a champion of patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration, creating national-level training programs on obstetric care, advanced airway management, and pediatric metabolic conditions. Her expertise has significantly improved clinical quality metrics and compliance in air medical services.
An accomplished speaker, Lisa presented at ECHO 2024 on team leadership and group development theory and co-moderated a leadership roundtable. She is delighted to return to ECHO again this year to speak on both decision fatigue and airway management. She holds an MSN with a specialization in Nursing Education and focused her capstone project on improving first-attempt intubation success through simulation training.
Lisa’s passion for wilderness medicine, adventure education, and leadership training has further enriched her approach to training and team development. She continues to drive innovation in critical care, leadership facilitation, and EMS education, making her a sought-after expert.
