Ina Schmidt is a board-certified Consultant Anesthetist, Intensivist, Emergency and Flight Physician with over 17 years of clinical experience and more than 1,700 fixed-wing aeromedical missions completed across five continents. Her background spans HEMS and ICU-level long-haul fixed-wing air ambulance operations, making her one of the most experienced physicians in this field.
She is the founder of ICARUS e.V., a non-profit association dedicated to advancing global standards in aeromedical transport medicine through research, education, training, and international collaboration. Her current work focuses on patient safety, critical incident reporting systems, and the recognition of Aeromedical Transport Medicine as a formal medical subspecialty.
Dr. Schmidt collaborates with leading organizations institutions , while also contributing to the development of training curricula for aeromedical professionals.
As a speaker, she combines frontline clinical insight with policy advocacy, offering a unique perspective on how to improve safety, standards, and outcomes in complex, cross-border medical transport.
