Dr Holcomb attended Arizona State University, a dual major in Biomedical & Chemical Engineering. He earned his Medical Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his Residency at Wilford Hall US Air Force Medical Center and Fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Colorado/Denver Children’s Program. Dr Holcomb was a distinguished graduate of Air Force ROTC, and is an 18-year USAF Disabled Veteran.
Dr Holcomb has conducted numerous national and international pediatric & neonatal critical care transports, during combat and peacetime, throughout the US, Europe & Asia, as well as trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific missions. He has transported in numerous fixed wing as well as rotary aircraft. He served as Commander of the USAF’s second largest Critical Care Air Transport Teams (CCATT), and as consultant to the USAF Transportation Command Surgeon General. He wrote several of the Standard Operating Procedures for the US Air Force CCATT pediatric and neonatal program, still in use today. He developed, launched and now runs the HCA Midwest Division, Neonatal & Maternal Transport programs out of Overland Park, Kansas.
Dr Holcomb currently serves as Immediate Past Chair for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Section on Transport Medicine (SOTM). He represents the SOTM on AAP Legislative affairs lobbying for the AAP in Washington DC. He is one of the authors for the AAP SOTM Field Survival Guide, and is Chief Editor for the upcoming 5th Edition, AAP Guidelines for Air and Ground Transport of Neonatal & Pediatric Patients. He has been the primary reviewer for the AAP on the 11th and 12th CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) Standards. He currently occupies the AAP seat on the CAMTS Board of Directors. He also serves as faculty for several international transport conferences, lecturing on various pediatric and neonatal critical care transport topics.
